Marriage and Family Therapy

About

J. Cameron Preece, Ph. D.
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
I love the psychotherapy work that I do.  For the last 22 years I have been a witness to the courage, tenacity, and creativity of my clients as they strive to improve their personal lives and relationships in their families.

The therapy services and interventions I provide for couples, families, and individuals are grounded in a bio-psychosocial systems perspective.  I am convinced that “the whole is greater than the sum of it’s parts” and thus pay keen attention to how a person’s body, mind, and social systems play a role in creating challenges and solutions in life.

I also believe psychotherapists are most successful when they demand the same changes in themselves that they encourage in those they provide therapy services for.

My expertise and training has lead me to work effectively with clients through the normal transitions of life as well as issues as varied as depression, anxiety, sexual abuse, chronic illness, bereavement, parent/child problems, acting out teens, marital conflict, sexual addiction, infidelity, and improving intimacy and communication in couple relationships.

Over the years, I have been a very active contributor to the field of Marriage & Family Therapy.  I have presented at national conferences (AAMFT & NCFR) have taught a number of graduate level courses as an adjunct professor at Syracuse University.

Currently, I provide clinical supervision for recently graduated students and new professionals seeking Marriage & Family Therapy licensure.  I have been very active on the Idaho Association for Marriage & Family Therapy board (President/Past-President) and was instrumental in bringing the Associate Marriage & Family Therapy License to Idaho.

I regularly share my professional training and expertise with community and religious service groups through workshops, firesides, seminars, administrative training, and other presentations.

In addition to my many professional interests, I love spending time with my wife and four children. I have served in numerous leadership positions in my church and  community.  My family and I moved to Boise from Syracuse, New York in 2003.

If I am not in the office you may find me exploring the trails above Boise on my mountain bike, skiing Bogus, rafting in Hell’s Canyon, backpacking in the Idaho wilderness, rock climbing, or pedaling away the miles in the Idaho country side on my road bike.

"You can never conquer the mountain. You can only conquer yourself."

Alice Foster - Office Manager & Billing
After many years of working in the school lunch program for the Meridian
School district, I woke up one morning and realized I didn’t want to
retire as a lunch lady!  I decided to follow my dreams and pursue an
education in something medical.  I graduated from Allied Health Schools
in 2012 in Medical Billing and Coding.  I have put that education into
practice for the last 6 years.  I also completed an insurance course
through Blue Cross of Idaho prior to my employment with Dr. Cameron Preece.
I am married, 6 children and 20 grandchildren.  I enjoy spending time with my
family.

My favorite saying is –“If I would have known how much fun
grandchildren are I would have had them first.”  I enjoy the outdoors-
camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, Dutch oven cooking, and sewing. I
enjoy making new friends and love to help people.  My favorite quote
is, “They don’t care how much you know until they know how much you
care.”
